I am continually amazed by our complete inability to anticipate technological development. It is perhaps the only thing that gives me hope that we can solve urgent social and environmental problems. Just when you thought every arrow in your renewable energy quiver was spent, here comes a new study from the University of Michigan effectively saying that they have discovered a new interaction with light that could result in novel solar panels that don’t rely on semiconductors. Huge achievement in physics, for sure. Maybe a huge win for us all?
